Over the summer months, About Me Care and Support, has been busy with customer celebrations and events. In Staffordshire, customers enjoyed a burger and a hotdog at ‘Chill n Grill’ over at Cannock Chase. The rain just about stayed off, but spirits were never dampened as people met up with old friends and had a good chat to staff about their services.
In Bristol, we had ‘Picnic in the Park’ at Blaise Castle Estate; it was a boiling hot day with customers meeting up with friends they hadn’t seen for a long time. ‘Enid’ told us that she isn’t able to get out as much as she would like, and since her hearing and sight have deteriorated she is unable to take part in the hobbies she used to enjoy such as reading, dress making and doing the cross-word. She doesn’t have any family and lives on the third floor of a block of flats, so little gatherings like this, she says, are just lovely and really important to her.
In Peterborough, Rainbow Court residents organised a Fun Day and BBQ. Residents, family and friends, support workers, Deafblind UK colleagues and members of the local community came along to enjoy the fun and games, with the tombola, name the wombat, pick-a-bottle and cake stall with its home baked goodies that were firm favourites with visitors. The event was a huge success; £365 was raised and will be put towards enabling the tenants living at Rainbow Court to participate in arts and craft sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-4pm. You can read more about this group in Caroline’s Self Care Week blog.
