On the 20th July, Rainbow Court, our assisted living accommodation in Peterborough, held their annual Fun Day where family, friends, support workers, Deafblind UK and About Me staff and members of the local community joined the residents to enjoy food, fun and games. There were lots of activities to get involved in, from tombola to hook-a-duck, bric-a-brac stalls and not forgetting everyone’s favourites the delicious BBQ lunch and cake stand! The weather was beautiful, the sun shone the entire day and everyone enjoyed the long awaited summer heat wave. The event was a huge success and £312 was raised, which will be put towards enabling the tenants of Rainbow Court to take part in art and craft sessions.
For more than 50 years, Rainbow Court has provided shelter and support for individuals with a dual sensory loss, whilst giving them the opportunity to live independently within the wider community.
A highly trained and skilled team based at Rainbow Court offer support packages ranging from personal care to community involvement. They can also assist tenants with day-to-day activities such as dealing with post and paying bills. Staff are trained in a variety of communication methods such as British Sign Language (BSL), Deafblind Manual and Clear Speech, ensuring that communication is not a barrier to living an independent life.
Tenants at Rainbow Court are issued with an assured (shorthold) tenancy, with an understanding that the tenancy is long-term unless the individual decides to move. Rainbow Court can also offer short-term placements for respite or independent living training.
