Spotlight on Carley Finnis

Carley Finnis

My name is Carley Finnis and in July 2015 I started as Assistant Service Manager covering London, Brighton and Essex alongside the Service Manager Matt Wallis. I feel I have settled into my new position quite comfortably, and am excited as there are always new things for me to learn and overcome with support from the team, especially Matt.

Prior to joining About Me, I worked predominantly with children in a variety of capacities including within a specialist school for children who display challenging behaviours, as well as with children in out of home care in residential settings. I was also as a foster carer for children with additional needs and worked with children and families within their own home to keep them together by providing support and techniques of how to deal with and overcome different circumstances that the family had encountered. Alongside my current role, I am also studying a BA Behavioural Studies (Psychology) degree majoring in Advanced Psychology, which I am very excited to complete by the end of this year. I feel that studying psychology has put me in good stead to work with people.

I will soon be starting to learn BSL level 1. I am very excited by this prospect as currently I get by with the Makaton that I have collected over the years, along with the Deafblind Manual I learnt at the fantastic three day induction that is provided for all new staff. This has assisted me in building rapport with the people we support. I’ve met some amazing people so far, each with individual and equally interesting life stories, and look forward to getting to know more.
